Clean Fuels and Efficient Transportation: Frequently Asked Questions

What is E10?
E10 is a gasoline/ethanol blend (90 percent unleaded gasoline and 10 percent ethanol or ethyl alcohol).

What are the benefits of E10?
E10 lowers carbon monoxide and other tailpipe emissions because it burns cleaner than 100 percent gasoline, maintaining air quality and complying with EPA mandates. E10 helps offset greenhouse gas emissions caused by burning fossil fuels, it biodegradable and does not contaminate ground water supplies.

What is E85?
E85 contains a maximum of 85 percent ethanol by volume and a minimum of 15 percent unleaded gasoline. Only vehicles built to operate as "flex fuel vehicles" can use E85.

What is biodiesel - B2?
The bio portion of biodiesel is a renewable fuel produced from vegetable oils such as soybeans, rapeseed and sunflower seed feedstock. B2 is a blend of 98 percent conventional diesel (#2 diesel) and two percent vegetable oil. It is a fuel component that extends engine life through exceptional lubricity. It can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification to the engine or the fuel system.

What are the benefits of biodiesel - B2?
Biodiesel helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions as well as particulate and other harmful emissions. It does not contribute to sulfur dioxide emissions, has high lubricity and easily biodegrades. Biodiesel poses minimal risk to water quality and it reduces air toxins by up to 90 percent. Biodiesel has the highest energy balance of any fuel. For every one unit of fossil energy needed to produce biodiesel, 3.2 units of energy are gained. B2 increases lubricity by up to 66 percent over #2 diesel resulting in: protection against fuel injector and injection pump failure, longer equipment life, lower maintenance costs and less equipment downtime.
