Overview

New Mexico Forest Re-Leaf provides grants to municipalities, schools, and organizations for tree planting projects.

The 1990 State Legislature passed New Mexico Forest Re-Leaf.
“The purpose of the New Mexico Forest Re-Leaf Act (68-2-29 to 68-2-33 NMSA 1978) is to educate the public and help protect the environment, improve the quality of life by encouraging and arranging for the planting of trees throughout the state by children,
students, parents, schools, civic and community groups and all residents of New Mexico.”

By administering Forest Re-Leaf the State Forestry Division assumes its leadership role as defined in its mission statement.

This law also allows the Forestry Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department to accept private donations to fund the program.

Through the New Mexico Forest Re-Leaf Tree-Planting Grant Program the Division strives to fulfill its mission. New Mexico Re-Leaf in addition to its educational and tree-planting mission also fills a budgetary void for public entities such as schools and communities lacking tree-planting budgets.

Forest Re-Leaf is a statewide program taking into account all geographic areas of the State.

Funding for projects comes entirely from donations through corporations, Seedling Distribution Program, PIT Personal Income Tax “check-off” box and is Tax deductible.
