La Ventana Mine Safeguard Project - Phase II
The Abandoned Mine Land Program (AMLP) safeguarded seven coal mine subsidence features located near La Ventana, south of Cuba, in Valencia County, New Mexico. The project area is located on the USGS San Pablo quadrange, and encompasses 3.5 acres of private land. Due to the hazards associated with abandoned mines, AML proposes to close these seven subsidences to enhance overall public safety.
The project involved the following work:
- Removing material and backfilling seven mine features
- Site Grading and Extreme Roughening
- Seeding of all areas disturbed by construction.
