Lumberton Mine Reclamation Project
The Lumberton Mine Reclamation Project consisted of three partially closed adits, eight gob piles and nine small gob contaminated areas. The project area was located on private land approximately one mile southeast of Lumberton, New Mexico in Rio Arriba County in Sections 1 and 10, Township 31 North, Range 1 West, New Mexico Principal Meridian.
This project involved the following work:
- Excavation of six trenches and burying mine waste material from adjacent gob piles;
- Closure of three partially open adits using mine waste and earthen material;
- Amending coal surface material at four locations;
- Construction of straw wattles at various locations;
- Seeding of all areas disturbed by construction.
The contractor was St. Cloud Mining Company based in Truth or Consequences, NM. St. Cloud Mining Co. has done many abandoned mine reclamation projects in the past.
