Mining Reclamation Awards are presented to one coal and one non-coal operation that have taken extra efforts to implement techniques that protect people and the environment from adverse effects of mining while allowing access to vital minerals.

Mineral Education Awards recognize educators, companies, and organizations that make innovative efforts in promoting understanding and education about earth science and about mining and its impacts. Two awards are sponsored: the Mining Awareness Educator Award and the Public Outreach Award.

Mine Safety and Health Training Awards include a state award and an industry award, each including four subcategories: coal surface, coal underground, metal/nonmetal surface, and metal/nonmetal underground (a potential of eight awards annually).

Awards are presented at the IMCC's Annual Meeting Awards Banquet in the spring.
