Mine Registration, Reporting and Safeguarding Program
San Juan

The Mine Registration, Reporting and Safeguarding (MRRS) Program is responsible for the registration of active mines and mills in New Mexico. Annual reporting from active operations yields statistical information on the state’s mineral industry, which is used by the program to develop publications and outreach materials. Through its safeguarding program staff inspect operations that are suspended to verify they represent no safety hazard to the public.

The program benefits the public through increased safety and protection at inactive mining operations through safeguarding. It also benefits the mining industry, contractors, government agencies, and the public sector through reporting statistical information on the mineral industry and mineral resources in New Mexico.
