Why New Mexico State Parks?

What is an NMVP?

Park Resident Volunteers...

Receive a FREE campsite (with utility hookups where available) and hands-on training by experienced park staff.  In exchange, a commitment of 24 hours a week per provided campsite is required.  A two-month term of service is strongly encouraged.  Schedules are flexible based on park needs and volunteer availability.

Boat Safety Instructor Volunteers...

Trailer in lake May teach independently or with other instructors national courses in motorboating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, PWC use.  Certification as an instructor is held a couple times a year.
   

Day Volunteers...

Day Volunteer

Live in, or are visiting a community near one of our state parks and are interested in becoming Day Volunteers.  Day Volunteers benefit from mentorship training by our experienced and qualified park staff with opportunities, schedules and job positions varying by location.

Projects/Events Volunteers...

Individuals, couples, organized clubs, scout troops, or other groups who contribute to one-time projects or events, or ongoing as needed.  Group leaders are advised to contact the Park Coordinator, to arrange logistics, at least two weeks in advance.  Youth (under age 18) must have prior written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Applications are available on-line, and can be completed and submitted electronically, printed in PDF format, or requested by mail or fax through the State Volunteer Coordinator and/or any New Mexico State Park.  Applications can be mailed or faxed to:

Placement...

Placement selection is based on park needs, volunteer experience, park availability, and volunteer preference.  An applicant's ability to be flexible will greatly increase the effectiveness of timely placement.

Once an application has been submitted, applicants are welcomed and encouraged to contact the State Volunteer Coordinator, and/or the Park Coordinator for information on availability, requirements and opportunities.
