In cooperation with the Dept. of Game and Fish and Forestry, State Parks has reduced the amount of natural fuels through forest thinning - improving the health and beauty of the park.

The 2-mile Hal Baxter Trail, popular among cross country skiiers, loops the park and provides opportunities to view wildlife in thier natural habitat.

Fenton fishing Butterfly

Fenton Lake was created in 1946 when a dam was built on Cebolla Creek, and is frequented by local fishermen.

Ponderosa pines, Douglas Fir and a variety of deciduous and coniferous plants dominate the park, attracting butterflies and birds.

Black bear are among many residents of the park including the endangered meadow jumping mouse; Fenton also serves as a resting area for migratory waterfowl.

Fenton Lake is located at 8,000 feet elevation in the Jemez Mountains, surrounded by Soda Dam and numerous scenic outlooks.
