Pre-School StoryTime
Activities include songs, a story, crafts and a short walk in the park every Friday when school is in session. This program is open to pre-school children ages infant to 5 years old accompanied by adults and is free of charge. The last one will be April 30 until August, when school resumes.

Dog Canyon Trail Hike
This will be a rigorous 1-mile hike but it will be guided at a leisurely pace. Hikers should plan on at least 2 hour to make the hike from the Visitor Center to the First Bench and back. The park's naturalists will lead the hike and be available to answer visitor’s question about the history and natural wonders along the trail. Wear sturdy shoes; bring all-weather clothing, sun protection, bring plenty of water and snacks. Meet at Visitor Center.

The annual Camp Furlong Day event is a commemoration of the March 9, 1916 raid on the Village of Columbus, New Mexico by the troops of Francisco "Pancho" Villa and the subsequent "Punitive Expedition" led by General John "Black Jack" Pershing in an unsuccessful attempt to capture Villa.

7th Annual Camp Furlong Day
The event is a commemoration of the raid on Columbus, New Mexico by the forces of Pancho Villa in March of 1916. The event is highlighted by the Cabalgata Binacional Villista in which up to 100 Mexican horse riders cross the border at Palomas into the U.S. and are joined by up to 150 American horse riders. They ride together from the border to the Village of Columbus and then into Pancho Villa State Park. Then the festivities begin. The event features food and craft vendors, special speakers, trick horse riding, ballet folklorico dancers, performers from Mexico, Mariachis, American musicians, military reenactors, and much more.

Telescope Workshop and Star Party
If you have a telescope that’s not working or too confusing to operate, here’s your chance for some expert help. Peter Lipscomb, famed local “cosmonut”, will explain how a variety of telescopes work and help get yours going. John Remaly of the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sarah Wood, Park Manager, will also be on hand to help. The workshop will be followed by a Star Party starting around 7. Peter will set up his 20” telescope and you can immediately begin viewing through yours.

The Great Hexagon

After the Flood Hike
On July 27, 2008 the scenic tumbling waters of Dog Canyon turned into a raging torrent caused by the remnants of hurricane Dolly. The Riparian Nature Trail is still mostly closed to the public. Join this ranger guided hike which will examine the damage and renewal flashfloods bring to desert canyons. The hike will be rigorous, be prepared for uneven footing across rugged terrain. This hike is not recommended for young children or fragile seniors. Meet at Visitor Center.

Predatory Arthropods of the Desert
Many of the most spectacular and fearsome looking arthropods in the Chihuahuan desert are predators, which capture live prey either as food for themselves or for their larvae. Some predators groups such as tiger beetles, robber flies and spider wasps are particularly well represented in desert regions. Join entomologist Greg Forbes for a look at the fascinating creatures. Come and hear about the recent archaeological investigations that the Black Range Ranger District, in conjunction with Howard University, have been doing in search of Buffalo Soldier, Warm Spring Apache campsites and battle sites on the Black Range. Find out about current investigations underway that will help us understand the complexity of this unique period of the 1860-1880s, which makes the Native American/military conflicts such an important period in the history of the American Southwest.

Spring Trout Derby
The Friend's of Oasis State Park presents their first ever "Spring Trout Derby" on March 27, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is open to all ages - as a reminder anyone 12 or older must have a valid NM fishing license. The park entrance fee of $5 per vehicle is required for non-annual permit holders. The entry fee for the derby is $5 for adults (16 and above) and $3 for juniors (15 and below). Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and will remian open during the derby times. Prizes will be based on the color of the tagged fish you catch. There will be: 4 red tags for $25, 10 blue tags for $10, and 20 yellow tags for $5. You will have a chance to win more than one prize as the trout limit is 5 fish per person. In addition to the prize money, a door prize will be drawn every hour during the fishin derby.
