     RECREATION SURVEY

The 2004 SCORP guides development of a diverse and balanced statewide outdoor recreation system to meet current and future outdoor recreation needs.  The plan assesses statewide outdoor recreation issues and trends, and recommends actions to help address identified needs. The SCORP also evaluates supply and demand for New Mexico's outdoor recreation resources, including public lands, open spaces, trails, and other recreation facilities.

Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) update

The Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, or SCORP –  is a requirement of the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965. Under the Act each state must develop a SCORP every five years to justify expenditures based on an analysis of existing recreational opportunities, broad-based public input for desired improvements, a list of current wetlands, and an inventory of the statewide trail systems.

The update to the New Mexico SCORP will analyze existing recreation facilities and opportunities at the federal, state, and local levels, identify priorities and unmet needs for recreation facilities and programs, and update inventories of recreation facilities, trails and wetlands in the state.

“New Mexico has a recreation lifestyle which underpins the economy and quality of life in our communities,” said State Park Director Dave Simon. “Public input is vital to guide our future recreation investments and priorities.”

New Mexico State Parks has completed the general round of statewide public outreach meetings, as part of the SCORP planning process. As part of the broader outreach effort we will be requesting a meeting with the Sovereign Nations in early July to elicit their valuable input for the SCORP - NM Outdoor Recreation Survey.

New Mexico State Parks is also requesting public input and comments from you the recreating public through the on-line NM Outdoor Recreation Survey to help provide the necessary information to aid in statewide planning for the future of outdoor recreation and trails in New Mexico for the next five-years.

You and your family can play an important role in the future of outdoor recreation in New Mexico as we develop a plan for outdoor recreational opportunities and programs, trail connections, open space acquisitions, and other recreation investments. Please give us a few minutes of your time to share your wishes regarding your family and community future outdoor recreation needs. You could be selected to receive a free Day Use or Overnight Camping Pass.

State Parks will host the SCORP survey site through July 15, 2009. To access the survey from this page click on the link above for the SCORP -  NM Outdoor Recreation Survey. Please share this with you friends and other fellow outdoor recreation users.  The survey can also be accessed at www.nmparks.com thru the NM Outdoor Recreation Survey Button.

We appreciate your participation and input in the process.

Please Revisit the Web Page on a regular basis for the posting of the SCORP process updates.
