Welcome to nmwatersheds.org, home page for the Division’s Forest and Watershed Health Office.

The mission of the Forest and Watershed Health Office (FWHO) is to facilitate implementation of the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Health Plan. The Plan provides a framework for meeting ecological, socio-cultural and economic objectives through a collaborative, landscape-scale approach. It lays out actions designed to transform the way ecological restoration is accomplished in New Mexico, and articulates guiding principles for how this work should be approached.

The Forest and Watershed Health Office coordinates with the Forestry Division’s state and district offices and other partners to accomplish the goals of the Plan. Partners include federal, tribal, state and local natural resource agencies, private landowners and land managers, educational institutions, forest product and restoration businesses, non-governmental organizations, and community groups.

FWHO’s Coordinating Group serves as an advisory body that provides direction on implementing the action items in the Forest and Watershed Health Plan. Group members and committees work collaboratively on current issues that affect natural resource management in the state. The group also sponsors initiatives like All About Watersheds, a web-based clearinghouse of information on forest and watershed health in New Mexico and the Southwest. The portal was developed jointly by the Forest and Watershed Health Office and the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute.
