The home study program is recognized by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators but may not be recognized as a formal course outside of New Mexico.

It is a good option for those who do not have the time for the formal, eight-hour class but have time for home study and can come in for a proctored exam.

This home study course booklet comes with a Boating Basics Exam and answer sheet which you can submit for getting an idea as to how well you might do on the proctored test. It is however not accepted for certification.

To take the proctored exam  you may go on New Mexico Classroom registration site and contact the Instructor to come in and take the exam at the end of the class or you may call 505-476-3390 and schedule a time in Albuquerque or Santa Fe as available.

You can order the booklet via e-mail (stephen.verchinski@state.nm.us).

New Mexico Boating Basics is also available at most Motor Vehicle Division Offices, State Parks, many marinas and boat dealers.
