Boat Rentals in New Mexico State Parks

These are the only locations renting within parks.  You may rent from other locations but the livery must follow state law regarding a renter/operator.

        Some things to consider when renting.

  • It is unlawful for the rental business owner or the person renting/operating the boat to have the boat depart from the shoreline or rental business location without the required equipment for the type of boat being rented. You are also responsible as the operator to make sure the required equipment and forms are on board and/or worn when operating the boat.
  • You must, if you are a person born on or after January 1, 1989 and wish to operate a motorboat on state waters, have completed a boating safety education course and have your Boater Education Card or Certificate with you when operating the boat.

As a person renting a motorboat you must receive instructions regarding the safe operation of the motorboat and a summary of the statutes and rules governing the operation of a motorboat from a person in the business of renting or leasing motorboats. The instructions shall be valid only for the period of the rental agreement not to exceed thirty days.

 

As an authorized rental operator without a certified boating safety education course or your Boater Education Card, your rental motorboat supplier will cover:

      1. instruction on the motorboat’s safe operation, which shall include the dockside safety checklist
      2. information on completing a sail/float plan,
      3. emergency preparedness,
      4. a pre-departure maintenance check,
      5. a required equipment check specifically for the type/length of boat being rented,
      6. a review of handling/loading specifications (reviews the total number of passengers you may have on board, total weight, Horsepower)
      7. the weather forecast
      8. a summary of the New Mexico statutes and rules governing the motorboat’s operation on the water and
      9. the requirement to have a copy onboard of your reviewed initialed and signed dockside safety checklist while operating the motorboat.
