Shipment Routes in New Mexico

The following map identifies the WIPP Shipment Routes designated by the State Highway Commission in 1991. You can find the Notice that designates these routes in the New Mexico Register, Volume II, Number 16, August 31, 1991. While I-40 from Clines Corners to the Texas border is a "designated route," DOE is not planning on using that section for shipments from major sites in the East. Small quantity shipments from Pantex are likely to use this section of the route. However, the remainder of shipments from the East will come up U.S. 285 from Pecos, Texas. DOE must obtain permission from the state to deviate from designated routes.
