Surrounded by lush pine forest, the park lies close to the Pecos Wilderness and has plenty of camping and picnicking sites. The lake is stocked with trout and is a great place to launch a canoe or kayak, while a hiking trail around the lake provides access for anglers. Hidden among a forest of pine trees, Morphy Lake State Park is found at the end of a 3-mile road that recently has been paved to accommodate visitors who do not have a high terrain vehicle. Located in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, privacy is easily found throughout this secluded park.
This small, scenic lake is stocked with trout and also is popular for kokanee salmon snagging. Boating is limited to electric motors and camping vehicles are restricted to 18-feet and under. Picnic sites are furnished with tables and fireplaces, but no drinking water. Visitors are reminded this is a PACK-IN, PACK-OUT park.
Morphy Lake State Park is seven miles south of Mora on N.M. 94 and four miles west on a newly-paved access road.
