A true oasis on the expansive, grassy plains of east central New Mexico, Oasis State Park is set among cottonwood trees and shifting sand dunes. Points of interest include a small fishing lake and prairie trails.
The park's 3-acre pond is stocked with rainbow trout in winter and channel catfish in summer.
Many bird species make their home at the park during the year, especially in winter. Look for great blue heron, quail and western sandpiper.
Oasis State Park is 6.5 miles north of Portales via N.M. 467.
