Caution Lake Level is Extremely Low - Beware of Mud Flats.
Boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing, fishing and windsurfing are some of the wet and wild activities available at the Park. Lake and river provide anglers with the opportunity to catch a variety of fish including catfish, largemouth bass, walleye, white bass, crappie, bluegill, northern pike and sunfish.
Teachers and students love field trips, and Caballo Lake may be an ideal location for one. With the release of the Bosque Education Guide - Lower Rio Grande Edition, teachers have a wide range of field trip and classroom activities to choose from that are aligned to state standards and tie classroom study to a field trip to Caballo. Visitors can stroll among yuccas, century plants, ocotillos, prickly pears, and other desert cacti growing in the park's two cactus gardens. Most of these cactus provide beautiful blooms in late March and early April.
Caballo Lake State Park is 16 miles south of Truth or Consequences via I-25 exit 59 and NM 187.
