  Cerrillos Hills State Park

Cerrillos Hills, New Mexico's 35th State Park, is a year-round, day-use park located off the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. You will cross paths with over 1,100 years of mining history here along the five miles of trails and enjoy spectacular views of the Sandias, Ortiz, Jemez, and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges. The park has 5 miles of trail among rolling juniper and pinon hills that are accessible year-round for hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers.

The Cerrillos Hills Park Coalition, a group of dedicated volunteers, started the park along with Santa Fe County Open Space. The Coalition's website has extensive information on the park's history, both ancient and recent.

Getting There   Map to Park

Cerrillos Hills State Park is in Santa Fe County approximately 16 miles south of Santa Fe and 4 miles north of Madrid.

  • The Reliable Route: From State Highway 14 turn west into the village of Cerrillos.  At the first stop sign, turn right (north) onto 1st Street.  Just after you cross the cattle guard, veer left, which puts you on County Road 59. The main parking is on the left hand side about 1/4 mile up the road.
  • The Adventurous Route: From I-25 take the Waldo Canyon exit (Exit 267) at the top of La Bajada and head south. After 8 miles on unpaved County Road 57, you will arrive in the Village of Cerrillos. Take a left at the railroad intersection and follow County Road 59 north to the park. County Road 57 may be impassable during wet weather.
